The way poker rooms make their money is mainly through the rake. Rake is a percentage fee that is taken out of all real money pots that are played in the room. The percentage taken out is usually around 5% of the size of the pot up to a maximum of about $1-$3. Therefore the more hands that are being played and the bigger the pots are the more money is taken out by the poker room.
Another way for the poker rooms to make money is by acting like a bank, but a bank that doesn’t give you any interest on your deposits but instead, interest to them.
